Melbourne Conference venues – our site inspections (and reviews)

For part two of our site inspection review, we take you to Melbourne to explore a few of the options that this vibrant city has to offer your business events.

Here are a few highlights from the properties Susan visited on her recent trip to Melbourne.

Crown Aviary

A spectacular city venue for that ultra-special celebration.  Easy access through the Crown entrance off Spencer Street, the Crown Aviary rooftop marquee lets in the superb riverside city views with its clear ceiling and walls.  Light and airy with plenty of space to host a large group (400 banquet) plus oodles of gorgeous outdoor deck area for your guests to mingle.  There are so many styling options for this amazing space so get creative and make your next gala function truly memorable.

Crowne Plaza Melbourne

This 1980’s iconic hotel has had a full refurb giving a fresh look to a well-located venue for accommodation and conferencing.  Sitting a short walk away from the Melbourne Convention Centre, it is perfect for guests attending an exhibition or you can choose to use one of the hotel’s 10 meeting rooms for your conferencing needs.  There are 4 beautiful light-filled Atrium rooms and 6 riverside Studio rooms (3 can be combined for a larger area) with views over the water and plenty of comfortably furnished pre-function space for a hard-working group to relax during breaks.

The Crowne Plaza’s 432 accommodation rooms are fresh and functional with large bathrooms and tamper-proof refillable Antipodes toiletries throughout.  There is also a rooftop pool for guest use giving city views while you take a dip or guests can keep up their fitness regime in the gym.  Breakfast in Yogo’s restaurant or grab a bite to eat in the Pow Wow café which can also be hired for small group functions and meetings.

Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands

This newly built 5-star Marriott has stunning interiors and a luxurious feel, conveniently located in Melbourne’s Dockland precinct giving your guests easy access to the Convention and Exhibition Centre, shopping or Marvel Stadium.  The minimal-look reception area hints at elements from the sea while Archer’s all-day dining restaurant pulls inspiration from Melbourne’s historic bridges and train stations.

The Promenade conference rooms are sleek and efficient with views over the Yarra and an outdoor terrace to take in a breath of fresh air at break time.  The 189 guestrooms have an urban chicness to them with clean lines and minimal fuss, equally functional for the business person or holiday couple.  But the jewel in this Marriott crown is the rooftop infinity pool #marriottdocklands perched next to the Sunset House cocktail bar which can be hired exclusively for special functions and launches.  Grab a cocktail and enjoy!

Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne

Catch the tram right outside the front entry or walk to many of Melbourne’s attractions from this historic, classic Melbourne city hotel.  Dating from 1913, the Rendezvous transports you back to a time of elegance and craftsmanship with the intricate ceiling cornices, stained-glass windows, warm woodwork, and the original mosaic floor tiles.  But history is by no means stuffy and dull with all 340 accommodation rooms refurbished and designed in a contemporary style to complement the old-world charm of the era.

There are 11 function rooms ranging from 300 capacity to intimate spaces for small board meetings.  The unique Atrium area is a beautiful place to host drinks and canapes while the cosy Travellers Bar invites you to come in and sit down.  Coming soon will be a basement restaurant worthy of a Melbourne address, the culinary city extraordinaire.

Vibe Hotel Melbourne

The Vibe Melbourne has a special little secret room for hire that has the most stunning views of the Yarra and city skyline.  Perched on the top level is a wrap-around glass terrace perfect for small parties and functions.  A real ‘wow’ spot to make your guests feel special.
