Getting to know Tasmania

Why should you host an event or a conference in Tasmania?
Tasmania offers so much diversity in short timeframes.

Where are the best places to host events?
Hobart and Launceston are the two best known places to hold conferences or events but there is also Cradle Mountain or Freycinet.  It’s all so connected that you can be anywhere in Tassie within an hour or two.

What about attractions? What are a few must-see things in Tassie?
In Hobart, Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an absolute must, as are the gin and whiskey distilleries in town. If you’re feeling energetic, head up Mount Wellington for a day hike. Across the country, Cradle Mountain is beautiful (but make sure you go in the off-season),  Freycinet is great for a cruise around Wine Glass Bay, and The Bay of Fires is spectacular as well. Tasmania has some of the best beaches and coastlines I have ever seen.  Port Arthur is a must too.

What accommodation options are there in Tassie?
Hobart boasts a range of accommodation options from luxury hotels and beautifully restored historic venues, to more budget-friendly options. Hobart harbour is home to many waterfront restaurants and function spaces and is surrounded by award-winning vineyards, museums and breweries. The venues can cater for intimate groups right up to 1100 pax.

What have you loved the most about your time in Tassie?
Getting off the beaten track and discovering the wild west coast of Tasmania, as well as devouring the history of the destination. The wilderness and the beaches are breathtaking.

What should you pack for a trip to Tassie?
Depends on when you are coming but so far, it’s warm to hot in the days and very cool in the evenings soo bring your cossies and your trackies. You need a wind jacket and jumper at night. In winter, I imagine you would live in the jacket!

What is the most unexpected thing you have discovered while you’ve been there?
The wilderness and how many foreigners come to Tassie to see and hike the mountains and the World Heritage- listed sites.  Also, there is so much diversity in Tasmania – from beaches to coasts to farms and mountains.
