Carla’s Meetings NZ and Rotorua wrap up!

Last week, I had the privilege of spending 7 days in New Zealand to get up to speed on destinations and suppliers from all over their country. I spend 4 days in Wellington at Meetings NZ and conducted 26 meetings and 2 destination talks, as well as a full day famil of Wellington. It was busy and hectic but increased my knowledge of the destination and many hotels from all over New Zealand.

I was then invited to attend a 3 day Famil to Rotorua and I am so pleased that I said yes.  It was amazing and it is the true cultural heart of New Zealand.  Filled with tradition and experience’s, that don’t disappoint. This iconic location is perfect for a mix of events – anything from an executive retreat or incentive, to an association as they have a large Convention Centre that is easily accessible but also for meetings/conferences.

The trip was full of favourable experiences and many amazing venues and activities that you couldn’t pick just one, however here is a snapshot of recommendations for anyone looking at hosting an event in Rotorua!

Te Pa Tu is the perfect venue for an arrival dinner for any group. It is a unique and traditional Maori experience that takes in a beautiful welcome, a show that tells the Maori story, followed by dinner.  This is where you are welcomed into the Rotorua family and it finished with hugs all round ?

The iconic hot springs, is what Rotorua is known for so you have to make sure to incorporate some down time into the agenda to experience the Polynesian Spa or the newly opened Wai Ariki Spa! For the more adventurous, try zip lining with Canopy Tours with zip lines that are up to 400 metres long and get up to speeds of 85kmph or maybe try Offroad NZ and race one of their Go Karts.

For a more gentle approach to team building, try Agrodome. It was a brilliant introduction to the world of farming as it is a working farm and you do get up close and personal with baby animals too! Skyline and night luging is also a fun option for those looking for something a little different! Lastly, seeing the most active geysers in the Southern Hemisphere at Te Puia was surreal and they have an impressive breakfast here too.

All of the suppliers did a fantastic job and showed us how professional they are and how they can pretty much cater to anyone and everyone! It was such a treat to be able to experience how much this destination had to offer to corporate groups and how event ready they are too.
